Rhys Ainsworth
Senior Consultant
University of Edinburgh law graduate now working in comms with a focus on fintech and Scottish public affairs
I joined 56° North as an Associate Consultant in June 2022 and found myself working on several fintech clients. Previously finance had never been my scene but with agency life comes the challenge of developing an understanding of previously uncharted territory. I’ve learned so much and really developed an interest in the sector – I’ve even started our own newsletter on the subject.
My favourite part of the job is the opportunity to write creatively, whether it’s in the form of the fortnightly fintech newsletter, penning press releases or pulling together punchy policy briefs.
Working with seasoned colleagues and contributing to 56° Degrees North’s growth from a burgeoning new business to what it has become has also been a hugely rewarding part of the job.
One of the highlights of my time at 56° North came in the summer of 2023 when I received a promotion to the role of Consultant. I’ve since been promoted again to Senior Consultant and am enjoying my new responsibilities.
Before 56° North, if there ever was such a time, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Edinburgh Centre for Constitutional Law producing policy-oriented research around comparative politics and international relations. Most of my time was spent within the Peace and Conflict Resolution Evidence Platform (or PeaceRep), supporting constitutional reform projects in Myanmar. This was my first role after graduating from the University of Edinburgh.
And… I have never ever counted my steps (and please don’t tell me about yours – sorry!)
